Anchorages

No official anchorages in this area, although some boats do anchor on the west side of the Harbour Bridge near Herne Bay.  There are no dingy landings, though, and it is a long dingy ride to Westhaven Marina.

Marinas

Westhaven Marina purports to be the largest marina in the Southern Hemisphere and it certainly seems to be with 1,400 marina berths.  It is located on the south side of Waitemata Harbour before going under the Auckland Harbour Bridge.  It is reasonably close to the Auckland city center, is next to the Westhaven Yachting Services complex and the America's Cup Village.

Facilities:

Floating docks Self-service Laundry Yacht Maintenance Yard
Toilets Internet Access Travel Lift
Showers Receive & Hold Mail Chandlery on premises
Power and Water at berth Fuel Dock Pump Out Facility

Work grids for working on boat bottoms at low tide, Restaurants, several Yacht Clubs, Burnsco Chandlery, sailmaker and canvas shop and a small luncheonette which sells scones, sandwiches and some grocery items.  Although there is no fuel dock, repair yard or travel lift, the marina is located right next to Orams Marine which has all of these facilities.

We have only enough information about the following marina for an abbreviated entry.

West Park Marina located  in western part of Waitamata Harbour after you pass under the Auckland Harbour Bridge.  The suburb is called West Park and is about 30 kilometers from the city.  This is the other full service marina in the area.  You must insure that it is not low tide when sailing to the marina as there are some shallow areas enroute.

Buses -   Auckland city has reasonable bus service.  Information regarding routes and schedules can be found at the Visitor Information Centre kiosk at the Downtown Shopping Mall and on Queen St.  The Link Bus makes a circuit around the city CBD. Taxis - Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced.  Corporate Cabs Co. offers a more upscale taxi service with larger cabs.   They cost a bit more, but are nice for special occasions.

Ferry Service -   The Auckland Ferry service is very good.  Ferries run from the Ferry Terminal on Quay St. to Devonport, Bayswater, Birkenhead Head and Whangaparoa (Gulf Harbour).  You can buy  single-fare, round-trip or multi-ride tickets at the ferry terminal or on board the ferry.
