Scarborough Marina is located on the north side of the Redcliffe Peninsula on Moreton Bay. It is a relatively new marina and has recently been made the official port of entry for small yachts for Brisbane.

Other amenities include a Chandlery, good maintenance yard and other yacht services. The office does let people plug in their PCs into a phone jack in the office, but it is not really convenient.

Advantages

Quiet location
Short bus ride to most cruising amenities
Most marine services located at marina.
Located close to the bus stop into Brisbane and to Kippa Ring Shopping Centre.

Disadvantages

Approximately 50 kilometers from Brisbane
No grocery store located within walking distance, but you can get bread, milk, sodas and newspapers close by.

Newport Waters - just around the corner from Scarborough Marina, part of the Newport Waters canal community. Just a marina with no repair facilities

Moreton Bay Boat Club - co-exists with Scarborough Marina; restaurant available for cruisers.

Grocery Stores -

Closet supermarket is Coles, located at Peninsula Fair located approximately 10 kms. away. See Shopping Centers for directions.
Woolworths located near the Redcliffe Parade. Ask at marina office about what bus to take to get there.

Propane Gas Canister Refill - Gas canisters can be refilled at the Ampol Station, cnr. of Victoria and Anzac Aves, Redcliffe

Banks/ATMs - Scarborough Esplanade, Redcliffe and Peninsula Fair

Shopping Centers -

Peninsula Fair and Kippa Ring Mall located on Anzac Ave., about 10 kilometers away. You can get there by bus. Ask the marina office for schedules of buses that service the area
There are also nice shopping areas on the Scarborough Esplanade and Redcliffe Parade. You can get to both of them by bus. Ask at the marina office.

Postal Services - Scarborough Esplanade, Redcliffe, Peninsula Fair Mall

Internet Access - Redcliffe Public Library, Downs St, Redcliffe. Most public libraries have internet access and will rent time to the public - very cheap.

Transport

Buses -

Hornibrook Bus Co. is the bus service that goes to Brisbane. Depending on the bus, it can take anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Reasonably priced even though it is not fast.
Redcliffe City buses service the Scarborough, Redcliffe and Kippa Ring areas. Reasonably priced. Ask at the marina office for schedules.

Taxis - There are several taxi services in the area and they are reasonably priced and clean. Beware of pension and dole day! People on a pension or on the dole get their checks, go shopping using all available taxis to get to and from the shopping centers. Also the grocery stores are packed.

Yacht Services

Chandleries -

Scarborough Marina. Even though it is small, they will get most anything you need within a day. It is run by a cruiser and he knows what you need.

Power and Sail Marine, 4/6 Hornibrook Esplanade, Clontraf, Very good selection of items.

Sailor's Corner (?)- Used boat equipment on Landsbourough St. in the esplanade in Scarborough.

Engine Maintenance - Booker Marine at Scarborough Marina.

Rigging Services - Allyacht Spars Australia, 1853 Lytton Rd., Lytton, QLD 4178. These people are distributors for Selden spars and various other companies. We purchased a new boom and were very pleased with the price and service. They also re-anodized our mizzen boom.

Stainless Steel Metal Fabricators - Clontarf Industries, 22 Tubbs St., Clontarf
Sailmakers - Ullman Sails, 25 Beach St., Kippa Ring. They did some good repair work on our sails.
Canvas Shops - Coverall Canopies This shop is within walking distance of the marina. But, he is a one-man shop and although we are told he does good work, it was impossible for us to get him to do anything for us, even though he kept promising the work would be done.

Upholstery - Allen Hockenhull Upholstery, 24 Beach Rd., Kippa Ring

Chain Galvanizing - Sunstate Coating, Boron St., Narangba

Yacht Maintenance - Repair Yard at Scarborough Marina. You can do the work yourself or hire out the work to the yacht services at the marina.

Fiberglass and Hull Maintenance - Peninsula Fiberglass, shop located at Scarborough Marina

Restaurants -

Morgan's Seafood Restaurant - Bird O' Passage Parade, Scarborough. Next to the Marina. Great Moreton Bay bugs!
Morgan's Fresh Seafood and Take-away - next to Morgan's Restaurant. Pick out the fresh items you want and they cook it for you fresh along with chips. You then take it out to the picnic tables to eat. Beware the gulls! There is also a terrific fresh sushi bar there as well.
Hog's Breath Cafe - Redcliffe Parade, Redcliffe. Good Sunday Brunch seated along the esplanade overlooking the bay

Pubs - Scarborough Hotel, Landsborough Ave, Scarborough

Hardware Stores - Bunnings Warehouse - located on Gympie Rd. between Redcliffe and Brisbane just north of Aspley. This is a large warehouse type place with just about anything that you might need.

Beauty Salons - Peninsula Fair Mall

Barbers - Peninsula Fair and Kippa Ring Malls.

Liquor Store - Liquor King - Next to Peninsula Fair Mall

Theaters/Cinemas - New, large cinema at Peninsula Fair

Things to See and Do -

Drive up to the Glass House Mountains
Visit Montvale on the escarpment in the Great Dividing Range. Terrific crafts, gifts, cafes, and views out to the ocean.
Visit the Australian Zoo to see the 'Steve -the 'Crocodile Man' and crocodiles up close and personal.
